These waterfowl seem to be part of a collection rather than wild, but they are certainly pretty. The conditions were poor (again), but it provided a reasonable test for the high ISO capabilities of the 7D. Most of these were taken at either ISO 1600 or 2000, and even then I could only manage a shutter speed of around 1/200s to 1/400s. First, a couple of shots kindly identified for me over at Wild About Britain.
Ringed Teal

American Wigeon

These next two I identified all on my own 😉
The Northern Pintail again (see previous duck post)

And another pintail

This one's a Shoveller (note that bill!)

The smew was there again… Bridget Riley would have a field day here 😉

Finally a couple of wild birds. The first is easy enough to identify…

And a more scenic view to close, of a young gull and a cormorant.

Given the conditions I'm happy with the quality, but would really like some decent light to see what the camera is capable of. Being able to get anything in such poor conditions is a bonus, but I'm craving high shutter speeds and low ISO. Then I'll be able to see what it can really do.

Camera note: all shots taken with the Canon 7D and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens.

[989
449,68,695,696,691,339,689,697
post-1842","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-water-birds-birds-2","tag-cormorant","tag-gull","tag-pintail","tag-shoveller","tag-smew","tag-swan","tag-teal","tag-wigeon","entry
["GET
