My best sighting was a red legged partridge flying across an open field. I was some distance away and the light was poor, but it is the first time I've caught one of these in flight so it has some scarcity value.

One of the local buzzards was scrapping with a crow (the crows usually win these encounters through sheer persistence).

It was still dull at lunchtime, and cold. But the pond is nearby so I did head over there. I am now fairly sure that the seven original ducklings have been reduced the just three.

They are cute though 😉

That's enough for one night, but there was a statistical oddity in the garden last night. Foxes have always been the dominant animal on the trail cam. We get cats, hedgehogs (they can have a high trigger count), foxes (who get the most sightings nightly) and occasional badgers. Last night it was quiet (only 12 clips in total), but with three badger sightings they topped the table for the first time. The rest were made up with empty clips (i.e. triggered but nothing passed in front of the camera), a couple each of hedgehogs, cats and foxes. It will be interesting to see what tonight brings. The hedgehogs are currently in the lead but I expect that to change as the night wears on.

Camera note: all shots taken with the Canon 7D and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens.

[980
179,44,1176,710
post-1896","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-birds-2","tag-buzzard","tag-crow","tag-duckling","tag-red-legged-partridge","entry
["GET
