It was moderately light this morning, which is when I spotted this fine woodpecker. He flew across the local pond, and settled on a telegraph pole just behind Falmer Church. The background is the <a href=\"http:\/\/my.opera.com\/Words\/blog\/2011\/05\/13\/a-hidden-gem-and-more-falmer-wildlife\" target=\"_blank\">13th century barn<\/a> mentioned in a previous post.<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/gwp_0607112575.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/gwp_0607112579.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>The young herring gulls are doing well, and putting on weight. That&#39;s as it should be since they are but a stone&#39;s throw from here:<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/football_0607112611.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>That&#39;s the logo of our local football (soccer) team, Brighton &amp; Hove Albion. Their new stadium (which is a matter of yards from where I work) opens in a couple of weeks. Meanwhile it&#39;s nice and quiet for the chicks.<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/gull_chick_0607112582.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/gull_chick_0607112631.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>On the home front, more dragonflies have appeared. This one was still at the edge of the pond early this evening.<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/common_darter_dragonfly_0607112643.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>And soon after, Shutterbug paid one of his occasional visits. He&#39;s still looking quite skinny (which I&#39;m putting down to a heavy moult), but his brush which had looked exceedingly tatty of late is beginning to recover.
