It's that time of year. They are taking over the garden, lurking under leaves and in the borders. Some are building elaborate webs, others spreading out large hammocks in which to catch their prey. Yes, the spiders are back! These are a few shots taken last night, before the long day of rain set in.<\/p>\n

First, a house spider in its proper (outside) habitat. These are the messy web-builders, creating large, inverted tents. They hide at the back waiting to pounce on unsuspecting insects.

Now for the garden spider. First in a typical centre-web pose.

Finally, for those who stayed with me through the arachnophobic's nightmare, a special treat. Yes, a fox. Shutterbug popped into the garden tonight, looking healthier than ever.
