Yes, I'm afraid it's back to the pond and those big birds. For once the cormorant was being coy, hiding under the island trees. Not so the heron, who was proudly sitting high in its branches enjoying the morning sun.

I watched and photographed for about 15 minutes when finally it decided to move to a more shaded spot.

With the coast now clear, the cormorant emerged from under the tree… a brief swim and a few unsuccessful dives before it too took to the wing.

It was only a brief foray for the cormorant. A few minutes later he was back under the tree, hanging his wings out to dry.

And to prove that these two pond denizens can get along ok, here they are at lunchtime.
