It was frozen (no surprise there).<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/black_headed_gull_0202124937.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>But in cold weather even the more cautious animals venture out in search of food, and the darting flight of a woodpecker caught my  attention. And I was in luck. It found a perch on a nearby tree, just catching the morning light, but slightly masked by branches.<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/gsw_0202124944.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/gsw_0202124950.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>It then flew to another tree, with a slightly better line of sight.<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/gsw_0202124956.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/gsw_0202124961.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>A good start to a cold day.
