It was well hidden in the undergrowth, but quite noisy!

It wasn't the only youngster about. A fledgling sparrow was posing prettily (well, waiting impatiently to be fed, might be more accurate).

Young magpies are extremely raucous, but score low in the cuteness stakes. This one was on the perimeter fence outside the Amex Community Stadium.

The remainder of today's shots were taken in the garden, early this evening. The light was excellent and the richness of the colours shows why the ends of the day are so much more productive for photography than the middle of the day when the sun is high and the colours washed out. First a blackbird.

To close, possibly the prettiest bird of the day, a strikingly yellow chiffchaff (as ever with these, I guess it could be a willow warbler, but I'll stick with what for me is the safer option).

Camera note: all shots taken with the Canon 7D and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens.

[980
51,183,1202,109,714,264
post-2356","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-birds-2","tag-blackbird","tag-chiffchaff","tag-fledgling","tag-magpie","tag-moorhen-chick","tag-sparrow","entry
["GET
