Although it is more or less on my doorstep, and I've driven past it countless times, today was the first time I've taken a proper look at the Railway Land project<\/a> on the edge of Lewes. The area is a former railway yard that has been turned into a wildlife haven. It abuts the River Ouse and is surrounded on one side by the town. It's overlooked by high cliffs on the other side.
<\/span> <\/p>\n

The 20 or so acres form a very pretty (and easy) open space, but with plenty of hidden areas and some excellent opportunities for wildlife watching. And being by a river, with some wetland inlets, it's a great place for dragonflies which is what I was concentrating on today.

As we were leaving we spotted a pair of peregrines over the cliffs (the photos aren't worth showing, but they were great to see), and then a kestrel out hunting. Too distant for any decent shots but I quite liked this one.

It's a place I will get back to over the coming months. <\/p>\n
