A beautiful winter sun heralded the shortest day of the year (but not the 'end of the world'). It was one of those mornings when you expect the unexpected. A pheasant, looking for a vantage point, perches on a roof.

A black-headed gull guards the 'No Fishing' sign.
<\/span> <\/p>\n

And then the fun begins. A small group of cormorants were fishing at the far end of the pond. Their target? The local carp.

<\/span> A second cormorant spies easy pickings<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span> A tussle ensues<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span> The carp makes a break…<\/span><\/p>\n
