I decided to give the macro lens a proper work-out today. More photos are in the Butterflies and Bugs<\/a> album, but here's a small sample.<\/p>\n

The first photo of the ants was just a matter of focusing on target and wating for the ants to climb over it. Which of course they do, I then spotted a spider. I've probably seen this type before, but not really taken any notice. My web searches suggest that it's a Nursery Web Spider, sometimes also referred to as a wolf spider (it hunts). This is the nearest thing to a wolf I'm likely to photgraph, especially from a few inches away! <\/p>\n

For the final shot I was hanging precariously over the edge of the pond, trying to support the camera without letting it slide into the murk. I managed plenty of badly blurrred shots due to camera shake, but one or two were ok. It's some sort of nymph as far as I can tell. It was less than 2cm in length.<\/p>\n
