But the machine hooked up via a USB wireless adapter just couldn&#39;t hold on to the router. The signal would drop out about every 7 minutes. Constantly. <\/p>\n<p>Things were getting fraught here, that&#39;s for sure. Tried upgrading the firmware on the router. No difference \ud83d\ude21 Tried changing encryption. No difference :irked: Tried changing the cycling time. No difference. Even disabled the &#39;sleep mode&#39; bit of the USB. No difference :furious: I&#39;m using the Linksys WUSB-11 gizmo, btw.<\/p>\n<p>While I was doing all this, the better half was chasing down forums across the globe (with a short break every seventh minute of course, as the signal failed). She finally found a clue over at BroadbandReports.com :sherlock: <\/p>\n<p>What they were saying tied in with one of the pix in the User Guide, though there were no obvious written instructions about it. Seems we needed to untick the box at the USB connectoid end saying &quot;Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network&quot;. Just to be on the safe side we also banned the wireless thingy from looking for other networks. It&#39;s our wireless adapter and we don&#39;t want it straying. Anyway those last couple of steps seem to have cracked it.
