The fox watching has been more patchy this week, partly due to the weather (last night was dreadful), but also because the shorter days. The fox doesn't like to hang around as long when it's dark, and if I'm honest I'm less willing to sit out when it's cold. I still managed to get some photos and I particularly like this one from a few nights ago.<\/p>\n

Other fox news is that the Belgian artist Francis Alys has filmed a fox loose in the National Portrait Gallery as part of his 'streets' project. Truly an urban (and presumably urbane) fox. This article in The Independent<\/a> lacks images (the newspaper carried them), but explains more. Shame they didn't get the artist's name quite right. ;). More on Alys at the Artangel<\/a> site. (They asked to use some of my photos for a catalogue – seriously – but a combination of events meant I missed my chance of fox fame.)<\/p>\n

I've also just finished one of the strangest novels I've read in long time: The Hospital Ship<\/i> by Martin Bax. My best shot at a description is that it's a cross between Ballard and Burroughs, deeply '60s influenced, and sharply iconoclastic. It's set on a ship that is the only sanctuary of healing in a world of pain and violence. Very strange, and not as dark as it sounds. I've posted a short review<\/a> on my other site.<\/p>\n

And while on a literary theme, Pete Townsend of The Who is publishing a novella by installments over on his blog<\/a>. I've downloaded the first two chapters, but haven't started reading it yet.
