Usually, when I get home in the evening I pop outside to see what's happening in the garden. Sometimes nothing, but on warm sunny evenings there's often a cub resting at the back of the garden. And there was tonight. <\/p>\n

They like that spot for the peace and quiet it provides, but an added attraction is the water bowl. We first put it there when they appeared back in April and they've finally managed to learn to drink from it without tipping it over. <\/p>\n

And that was more or less going to be tonight's post. An oasis of calm and peace.<\/p>\n

In the middle of the evening I went out again to see if the dog fox would show up. He didn't, but a couple of cubs did. And they weren't in a good mood. It began when the small 'skinny' cub decided to launch itself at its sibling.<\/p>\n

For a moment or so this resolved itself with the two sitting cheek by jowl and making loud mewling noises at each other. The larger cub finally broke away to near the rose bush, only for the skinny one (which had been making most of the noise) to launch another attack. Bad move.<\/p>\n

The skinny cub is on the left, and on its knees (more or less). Now these episodes are generally over in a flash (and sometimes quicker than my camera can flash), but I think these two are seeking an Equity card. They held<\/i> the pose for several seconds, which meant I managed a second shot as well (I've included a crop of the main image).<\/p>\n

And then it was over. They each went to separate parts of the garden, seemingly none the worse for the encounter.
