One other bright spot was seeing a young kestrel recovering from a broken wing when I picked up the mange treatment earlier today. Last week the bird's wing was bandaged, but the recovery is well underway and – so I'm told – it's now just a case of strengthening the wing and putting on some weight. Speaking of which, during the afternoon (at the time still wondering whether yesterday's crow was a crow or a raven… I'm now settled on 'crow') I spotted an aerial duel of sorts. It was at too high an altitude to be sure about the identification, but I think<\/i> it's a crow being chased by a kestrel or sparrowhawk (I really don't have a clue and this is the best shot I could get… they were virtual dots in the sky). They were well out of sight before I could tell whether anything serious came of the encounter.<\/p>\n It's raining again (about 00.15 on Sunday morning), so I don't think we'll get a late visit from the fox. But this pretty young thing put in a brief appearance a little earlier (and snaffled some of the sultanas that were meant for his elder).<\/p>\n
