The weather wasn&#39;t too good. We even had some sleet. Photographically not the best day out, but I had two encounters that are worth reporting on. The photos aren&#39;t great but the moments were special to me.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 120%\"><span class=\"aligncenter\"><strong>The magpie versus the kestrel<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>We were on the wrong side of the field to see this, but in the distance a kestrel was worrying some magpies. The camera was set up for an altogether different sort of shot, but I managed to squeeze these two of the magpie getting the better of the kestrel.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/kestrel_magpie_1903076601.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img SRC=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/kestrel_magpie_1903076601.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/IMGIYPVL3L2TE.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img SRC=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/IMGIYPVL3L2TE.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 120%\"><span class=\"aligncenter\"><strong>The Great Spotted Woodpecker<\/strong><\/span><\/span><br \/>Regular readers will recall my frustration at photographing a woodpecker. Well thanks to my colleagues I now know where to look. And today I was rewarded with two fleeting glimpses. It&#39;s much smaller than I expected and these are hefty crops.
