The original posts are here and here.

For those who haven't been following this, Roofy (the adult fox) had sustained two quite severe cuts on his head. They appeared to be circular, quite unlike mange) and had small amounts of dried blood around them. He seemed quite oblivious to them, and his behaviour was much the same as usual. The clearest shot of the two wounds, 31st May 2007

Having dismissed mange as a cause we speculated on here whether it might have been caused by ticks. He'd had an encounter with a hedgehog and their ticks can cause quite significant lesions. The ticks also manage to detach themselves (and re-attach), so you may not actually see the tick even when still active. The other possibility is that he sustained an airborne attack by the local seagulls (possible as they were preparing nests and may have had eggs). I'm still entirely undecided which is the more likely.
6th June 2007

So 'cause unknown', and I kept as close an eye as I could on Roofy to make sure the wounds stayed clean and healed up. We didn't intervene, just monitored. Finally, over the weekend, I was able to get two more good close-ups showing how well the healing process had gone. The patches are all but vanished, as you can see in these two photos.

Rear view of the healing wound

Top view, showing both sites nearly fully recovered

[15,4
1128,303
post-879","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-behaviour","category-foxes","tag-fox","tag-wound","entry
["GET
