For some reason though I decided to take it with me to work. And for once, I had the right lens at the right time.<\/p>\n<p>I&#39;d gone out at lunchtime, not really expecting to see too much. In order to get the shots I cranked the ISO up, set the aperture to 5.6 and underexposed by a mile. It&#39;s the only way to get a fast enough shutter speed. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/10\/gwp_1210072016.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16562\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/10\/gwp_1210072016-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"Green Woodpecker\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-16562\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/10\/gwp_1210072016-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/10\/gwp_1210072016-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/10\/gwp_1210072016.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#39;d love to have got closer in  (those are quite hefty crops), but the green woodpecker is a notoriously shy bird, and sure enough it took to the wing as I edged closer. It still doesn&#39;t tell me very much, and he&#39;s still carrying it most of the time.
