This set was photographed on September 5th 2009, at Ramsey Island, Pembrokeshire, Wales. The photos were taken from a boat operated by Voyages of Discovery, who are one of a number of excellent companies providing trips around the island. Ramsey Island is an RSPB reserve and home to a large colony of Atlantic grey seals. Septmber is pupping time, and in a number of the shots you can see the young seals in their distinctive white coat. Most of the shots were taken with a Canon 40D with the Canon 100-400mm lens. Photographing from a moving boat in relatively unsettled weather has its problems, and the camera got a soaking. Hence the last shots of the seals were taken with my spare camera, a small Canon S2. There is some video as well over on YouTube. There are also four blog entries relating to this trip, starting here. |
