Another soaking wet day, though the winds finally helped the skies clear by late afternoon. This shot was taken much earlier in the day, and appropriately enough is a 'box of tricks chicks'.

All three chicks are doing well. In a few days I expect them to venture to the edge of their 'box' and 'plummet' to the roof where the parents have already provided straw matting. Once there, they won't be able to get back to the nest and so will need to seek what shelter they can. I hope the weather improves for them.

And for the rest of today's blog, a few more fox cub photos… I have a near endless supply. These are from about an hour ago.

  1. Tha cubs are coming along nicely, and gaining confidence … it's good to see.

  2. Are those gull chicks? EDIT:  Got the answer in the next post 😀

At least here they often put up their nests on the roofs, where is no shelter at all. Just like they do on the rocks at seasides. Then some of those poor little creatures fall down and get killed by cars, eaten by predators like crows, or just die in the hunger.

  3. Careful but hungry enough to come closer to you 😀

  4. Sami. they're at risk of crows and magpies up there but the adult gulls are quite attentive at the moment. Some do fall of roofs, but this one is relatively safe for them and quite low. Hopefully they'll be fine. 🙂

  5. dW, they'e learning. Slowly… but we're making progress.

  6. Darko, that's the idea 😉

  7. The chicks look like they're conferring about something :right:

  8. Adele, I think they're wondering where the big white warm thing that feeds them has gone. :right:
