The photos aren’t up to much, but they’re the first sighting this year of a fox cub (kit).

I’d spotted Lopa venturing out and a few minutes later spotted her cutting back across to where she had come from. Then out again, this time followed by a tiny fox cub. The cub only stayed put for a few moments (I think Lopa had brought some food to it which explains the head down pose in the second image.) The it was gone. It’s approximately 7 weeks old.

First fleeting glimpse of Lopa’s fox cub
Picking up food?

Hopefully we’ll see more over the coming days and weeks. I’m also keen to find out whether this is a singleton cub or whether it has any siblings.

Camera note: photos taken with the Canon 1DX Mark II and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens.

  1. Great to see a new little fox amongst us.

    1. Yes, a very happy sighting!

  2. It must be tiny, knowing that foxes are small animals in general.

    1. It is so small. I’m still waiting to see it again, but it’s only just started venturing out.

  3. Excellent! They’re so rounded at that age.

Hopefully you’ll spot it again soon.

    1. Yes just too sweet for words. We’ve had one brief sighting since (no photo) but can hear them at night so we’re still hopeful Lopa will bring them round to visit!
