We’ve been keeping a close eye on Lopa and have been rewarded with several more sightings of her cubs. From what we can tell, there are three little foxes in her brood. They are still too young to be venturing far from their den and we’re yet to see them out on their own. In all our sightings to date, Lopa is very close by.

What has changed is that they are making more trips outside during daylight hours. In this photo two of them are emerging from their den to see what mum has brought back for them.

While these two were out playing, a third cub was hanging back, trying to stay out of sight (there’s always a shy one!)

It was good to see how attentive Lopa is with her cubs. Although we frequently spot her sleeping in the garden and getting a break, she is also clearly taking good care of them. I assume she is getting help from at least one of the two males we’ve seen hanging around in the area.

We’ll be keeping an eye on what’s going on with the cubs, but al the signs so far are that they are doing well.

For the moment we have seen no evidence of cubs, in Nova Scotia. Our first sighting last year was early in June, so we’re still hoping

    1. Still time at your end! Here’s hoping. Our season seems to be getting slightly earlier, but I’m not complaining 🙂
