Dancing Buzzards

The weather continues to be more autumnal than spring, with decided chill in the air and the ever-present threat of rain. At lunchtime though, it was dry and the winds were sufficiently placid to tempt me out to the fields to the north of Falmer.

The farmer has herded the sheep into a distant field and the scene was quiet. The interest was overhead, as a pair of buzzards danced their way across the sky. It's a common behavioural trait to see buzzards dancing high in the air, but it's a scene I never tire of watching. These shots are from a long distance and have been heavily cropped.

Tonight's fox cub (depending when you see this is) is over on my Fox of the Day page.

Camera note: all shots taken with the Canon 7D and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens.

Nice. I think many raptors exhibit similar behaviour.

I thought one of them is having something on its claws. Then I realized that my monitor needs cleaning 😛

dW, some other raptors do this, but buzzards seem to excel at it.

LOL! I've fallen for that problem when editing photos and spent ages trying to removes spots.

Adele, thanks! I love the way they tumble and twirl.
