Fox Time Again (includes video)

It’s been a few days, but I’m back with a fox post again. Of our brood of cubs, Bully Boy is the only one who seems to have stayed around. We’ve not seen Pretty or Red for several weeks, but some of the adults still show up at night, so I’ll start with a brief glimpse of Nicked Ear skulking in the corner of the garden late last night.

The adults retain a healthy wariness. The cubs are still learning their way, and Bully Boy is quite happy to sit around the garden with us. These are a few shots taken during the day.

And now some video…

The last couple of shots were taken as dark was falling. I’d gone outside. Something seemed out of place. A fox to be precise. Bully Boy was happily settling down on a neighbouring roof. The shots aren’t great (taken without flash with a 100mm hand-held lens), but a rooftop fox is always a bit of a treat.

Some Foxes

It’s been a few days since I’ve posted any pictures of the foxes. At night we have three or four still appearing on the trail cam, but daytime visits seem to now be the exclusive preserve of Bully Boy.

Here he is on a hot afternoon in Sussex…

Eye Ear Nose Teeth (or How to Identify a Fox)

I’ll take a wild guess that everyone visiting this blog has a reasonably good notion of what a fox looks like. Assuming that’s the case, this simple photographic guide to how to identify a fox (eye, ear, nose, teeth) is unlikely to add much to the sum of human knowledge. In case there is anyone out there who hasn’t seen a fox (or a photo of one), this is for you. All photos were taken today.
