I'll put a teaser shot at the end, but in the meantime here are a couple of videos to keep things moving along.

First, a visit by the badger on Friday night. It disturbed a hedgehog at the water bowl. If you watch closely you can see the hedgehog hiding among the shrubs while the badger wanders around and enjoys a few peanuts.

And then from last night, a sequence of the foxes (yes plural). Bold came by with her cubs (yes plural 🙂 ). I didn't get any photos of the young ones, but did get some nice shots of her. The second cub appears at around the two minute point.

Bold vixen

And the reason why this is somewhat of a holding post is these guys who I came across today. I have one or two photos to sort through  and a fair amount of video. It may take a little while. But here are the stars of the show…

Camera note: the vixen was photographed with the EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens. I used the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS for the kestrels.

  1. Goodness, you have had a good few days! A badger and a hedgehog together – fantastic! As for the chicks, they are very cute (in a falconish kind of way) and looking forward to seeing the rest of the photos!

  2. Wow, that is so great! To see the young of anykind is great, but when it comes to raptors it somehow seems extra special.

  3. Adele, yesterday was quiet actually, but today was quite special. Still working on the video footage and photos but I've put one more on my 365 album (but not for the squeamish).

  4. Robin, yes there's something quite compelling about watching them. It was a total surprise. I'd gone in search of demoiselle dragonflies, but stumbled upon the brood of kestrels in the reserve. Inevitably they took up most of the time we spent there.

  5. Wow!!! I didn`t know kestrels live in communities, they looked to me more as lonesome predators. Nice photo

  6. Darko, these guys don't have a choice. They can't fly yet 😉
