One is an easy shot, the other isn't. I'll start with the tricky one 😉
I took this at lunchtime today. The light was poor (again), but there was enough reflection off the water to get decent shutter speeds. The swallow (there were actually two of them) was making repeated sweeps along the length of the pond. I have plenty of 'plain water' shots to show for efforts, plus this one.
This second one of the swallow isn't quite up to the mark, but I like the ripples left by its 'skim' of the surface.
Now to this evening's effort. The fox ambled over the pond, pausing and posing as he went. I was about 20 feet away, maybe a little less.
And back again! Tiring work for a fox.
Camera note: swallow shots taken with the Canon 7D and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens. The fox was photographed with the EF70-300mm 4.5-5.6 DO IS lens.

16 Apr 2011Robin, thanks. It's not 100% sharp but it does set me a decent benchmark for better shots. A sunny day would help a lot.

16 Apr 2011Adele, thanks! It's a bit like photographing dragonflies… impossible to chase so it's a matter of waiting. I suspect I might have more success with the prime lens, manually focusing.

19 Apr 2011Mick, thanks. It was good of the swallow to time the wing opening just right. 🙂
