Last night (Friday) the foxes were active. Not that we saw any, but their calls and barks were loud, local and continuous. This is the height of their mating season (gestation of around 53 days so cubs due in mid to late March) and it may well be that last night was the peak of activity for the local foxes. We'll see, or more likely hear over the next week or so. As I said, we didn't see any foxes, but the trail cam caught a little bit of 'courtship' (though the vixen was rather too interested in eating peanuts!). There's also a clip of a badger in this sequence.
Video captured on the Bushnell Trophy Cam HD.

14 Jan 2013haha! that was eu de fox from Paris perfume. Save me a baby fox. Panda needs a playmate since my husband took the couch ruining cat to the pound when he was home for Christmas. That cat had lost her mind. Ruined my leather sofa. I used Simple Green on the pee stains ( it's mauve leather, not the shiny kind, either) and it helped. Maybe a few more doses of it then I'll tuck an afghan over the seat cushions and call it a day.

15 Jan 2013dW, it may already be over them for this season, so early April is the very earliest I'm likely to see cubs and probably not until late May unless they are very close.

15 Jan 2013Kathy, I'm looking forward to seeing the next brood. Hopefully they'll be close by but you can never be sure. It varies year to year.

16 Jan 2013It's getting towards the end of the mating season so I guess their eventual litter is going to be one of the lateish ones.

16 Jan 2013Adele, yes that's what I thought. Just hoping they are in one of the neighbouring gardens, but you never can tell.
