I've been pre-occupied with other matters this week. I don't intend to blog about the details here, but may post occasional updates.

Opportunities for wildlife watching have inevitably been restricted (the awful weather hasn't helped), but we did pop down to Rottingdean yesterday. The skies were heavily overcast, the light was fading, the rain beginning to fall (symbolic of the week perhaps), but in every cloud there are silver linings.

  1. A community member once commented on the overcast conditions shown in one of my photo posts.

He suggested that overcast conditions are best for scenic images as the colors have more depth to them, without photoshopping.

I would love your opinion on that.

The pictures are beautiful, it's almost like wildlife sees you coming, and poses.

  2. Wonderful shots!

  3. Thanks Tab. I think days which have strong light, but when the light is diffuse, can be great as you don't get problems with deep shadow. But it really was a bit dark when I took these 😉

  4. Thanks Lois!

  5. Lovelly shots of the Oyster Catchers 😀 lets hope December brings more nicer calm weather our way.

  6. I thought the same thing, but always nice to have a second opinion.

I don't like photoshopping my images too much, this is what sparked my curiosity.

My photo's are mostly of nature, flowers in particular. I thought the images I took at last years tulip fest looked a bit drab in overcast conditions.

I used both my handheld camera and a DSLR.

Also looking at cheesyphotography's blog she used a laptop for lighting self portraits with brilliant effect, can't wait to try that!

    Thanks.

  7. Glad to see you back.
    Great shot of the Oystercatchers.

  8. I like the egret against the dark rocks

  9. noce photos. As Adele says the egret stands out nicely against the rocks

  10. Tab, I don't do too much to most photos but I will use the levels controls sometimes to bring out the depth. With these the main issue was noise (they were all at above ISO 100).

  11. Mark, we had a little bit of nice weather today, not that I got a chance to see any of it 😉

  12. Robin, thanks!

  13. Adele, the egret was a very good subject (the white plumage gave some chance of a usable shutter speed).

  14. Thanks Erwin!

  15. Neil, thanks!

  16. The oyster-catchers shot is great! I'm not too much lucky with clear sky in the region where I live, so I very often have to shoot when it's gloomy and gray. Sometimes it works, sometimes not, everything depends on the subject… as always! 😆

  17. I had the best of the weather yesterday as i didnt start workies until 3:30pm so i went round Hotham park in the morning with Benjie and it was a beautiful morning. 🙂

  18. I have noticed you have gone quiet Words hope all is ok and that you are not covered with work and Christmas Shoppimg too much to come on here 😛

Reminds me, its 3 weeks to go and i havent started shopping yet……. :yikes:

  19. Mark….I haven't started either!

  20. Mark, no I'm fine. I've just been very busy with some other stuff.

  21. Anna, the light is strange this time of year. Sometimes great, sometimes terrible.
