More rain and mist today. The ground is saturated, and visibility down to almost nothing for much of the day. The amphibians don't mind though, and with slightly clearer air this evening (and working close up) I was rewarded with a very active pond. Several more frogs have arrived, though the numbers are still well below the annual peak. The newts are lively, with juveniles and adults foraging among the weed and venturing out of the pond. Watching them is like having a window on another world.

  1. Cool frogs! 😎 I think ours are all frozen solid…

  2. Words, very nice shots! I do like amphibians! Seems like only yesterday everything was frozen there! You can ship some of that warmer weather here. It's still freezing!

  3. Very lively pond 🙂

  4. Great photos! Nice to see your ponds and amphibians thawing out. Spring must have arrived!

  5. It seems like spring is close in your island. Here – 20cm of a new snow :left:

  6. Darko, that's a lot of snow! With a bit of luck we'll stay clear of it, but you never know. A couple of years ago we had snow in April.

  7. Robin, the thaw came quickly when it arrived. It's good to see life returning to the pond (though I would like to see a few more frogs).

  8. Sami, yes it's pretty busy in there, despite being small (and largely neglected!).

  9. Lois, yes I think we are heading for spring. I even saw some blue sky toady today 🙂

  10. Eric, it's amazing how they survive the big freeze :smurf:

  11. 😆

  12. Still snowing :left: Hopefully it will stop by sunday…

  13. Low cloud and very wet ground here too :right:

But there is wildlife for all weathers and I'm glad you've got so many amphibians to watch! The last shot really helps show how tiny newts are.

  14. Adele, we're back with the fog today… and now rain though it's hard to tell the difference. The newts are really quite small, until you line them up with a damselfly nymph… I lose track of size peering through the lens. They all fill the viewfinder 😉

  15. Darko, we've had more mist today. Maybe we could swap 😉
