The sun was shining this morning. It didn't last, but it was beautiful while it lasted. I'd stopped off at Seven Sisters early, and spotted my first Canada geese goslings of the year. Even as youngsters they look slightly different to the greylags I see at Falmer pond… slightly lankier, even though they look very young.
Here they are swimming upstream…
They came into range for some close-ups.
There were other birds to see (of course). Lots of swifts…
And a beautiful little egret gliding across a perfect blue sky.
More foxes tomorrow…
Camera note: all shots taken with the Canon 7D and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens.

30 May 2013The Canada goslings are delightful, Words … I've noticed that the Canadas seem to form babysitting pools, at least when the goslings are a little older, but still fuzzy, where one or two adults will watch over a dozen or more youngsters while the rest of the adults attend to feeding themselves. Then they switch off. Do your greylags do the same (we don't have them here)?
That swift photo, and the egret, are fabulous!

2 Jun 2013Another nice series – and the egret looks very white against that sky.

15 Jun 2013dW, the greylags seem to parent directly. I've not seen any creche behaviour, but that might simply be down to the small numbers on the pond.
