Nice. I saw a few butterflies Sunday and even more yesterday mostly commas, with a red admiral and some brimstones. I think its time for the annual orange tip and brimstone chase….

Wonderful photo, Words! The Eastern Comma is alive and well here in Appalachia. Although, I think this is a Green Comma. I just really love the True Brushfoots. Thanks for the delightful picture.

Cynthia, thanks! As far as I know it's just plain 'comma' here, but yes the body has a distinctive green to it.

Neil, it could turn out to be a really good spring. I've high hopes for this year. A real winter, a decent spring… and maybe a hot summer π

We're doing quite well way down south π Saw several whites today, plus (probably) tortoiseshells but they flew past too quickly and erratically for a proper i.d.

Mick, I'm not sure whether any other species has that shape, but yes it's quite distinctive.
