You may recall that towards the end of last year we attempted to treat the old male fox for mange, but he vanished before we could complete treatment. We last saw him on Boxing Day, and he looked in reasonable shape. Well he was back tonight, and I'm afraid that the mange seems to have taken hold.

His rear legs are worst affected, and his brush is badly diminished.

We gave him some food with cod liver oil.

The feeding is mainly to keep him interested so there's a chance he'll come back. The oil helps their coat a bit, but isn't going to make much headway in his current state. I'll try to get some ivermectin from the local centre, so if he does return we can start the treatment again. His face is heavily scarred, but I think those are mainly battle wounds. He's no kid, and has a tough job to hang on to his territory.

That old familiar face

One final photo – this time of a squirrel at work today. There are more in the Squirrel album.

  1. The old guy is looking a bit rough alright.

  2. He's very lucky having people looking after him like that. He will have to retire from his job some day. When that day comes, he will need you more than ever.

  3. Poor Dog Fox:( I hope he does get better but unless you keep him in your garden while treating him (which wouldnt be nice and would stress him) its hard unless he now comes willingly every evening from now until treatment is completed which i hope he does. 🙂

  4. Yes, the same words: poor fox. I hope, he will recover very soon.

I am very surprised for your words:

When that day comes, he will need you more than ever.

Never I thoughts, that foxes could be trusting in this way.

But your squirrel-album is wonderful. I can't see enough of it.

  5. :worried: It's so difficult to get the regular dose into them at this time of year, isn't it. Good luck with treating him.

Great squirrel album  that first shot is wonderful 😀
