The main focus of this entry is Shutterbug the fox. He spent a good amount of time in the garden this evening. I hoped that he'd bring the cub with him (he didn't), but the plus was that he was in one of his independent moods and more or less completely ignored me while he explored. Before the fox photos, there's just one image from today that I want to post, as a marker for what I hope will be a longer series.

Regular readers will remember the herring gull chicks from previous years. Well I've found a new roof, and a new nest to watch. No chicks yet, but the signs are good.

Now to the fox. After wandering around the garden he decided to settle on a sloping area which is covered with bark chippings. It's one of his favourite spots, no doubt because it's soft, dry and warm.

Another reason he might like it is the hedge (actually, shrubby honeysuckle). Apart from the fact that he treats it as a path to burrow through to the next garden…

… it also makes an excellent scratching post for getting rid of all those itches.

I'm sure the cub will be along later (probably too late for me), and possibly the badger which is again turning up most nights. I may yet take one final look; after all , it is the weekend.
