Just back from two nights at the Patti Smith 'Meltdown' concerts. Two amazing shows. Saturday was the 'Horses' night. Last night (Sunday) was a tribute to Hendrix.

The Horses show was stunning, with Patti on great form, really pumping the energy. Some great moments too from Flea (Red Hot Chill Peppers) guesting on bass and trumpet. The big moment for me was "Kimberley" which was so restrained but spine-tinglingly electric. And then a stunning version of Land which segued back into a reprise of Gloria. Pissing in the River was one of the encores, as was a reading of Piss Factory. I was in heaven, almost back at the Roundhouse 1976.

Last night was different. Lots of short sets (one or two songs) from a variety of performers. Highlights were James Blood Ulmer, and without a doubt, Kimmo Pohjonen an outrageous accordion player (and that really doesn't do any justice at all to what he does), and Jeff Beck who played a storming (if all too brief) set.

More Patti Meltdown pix. Will sort out a proper page when I get time.

Right now, still coming down.
