Yesterday I posted some photos of a pair of house martin chicks. I went back today, and had a re-count.

And when the adult arrives back with some juicy insects…

House Martin Chicks
Three!

Now I’m wondering whether there’s a fourth chick lurking at the back of the nest. They can have up to six young in a clutch, so it’s possible. Hard work for the parents, who can produce two to three clutches per season.

The other good sighting of the day was much larger. At lunchtime a buzzard came in over the pond, circling for a while until it was roundly chased off by a pair of herring gulls.

  1. Funny series of house martins 😀

    Feedback on your new blog:
+ I like the way the name and email address are saved with cookies. So, I don’t need to fill those every time.
+ It is nice to have smilies 🙂 I like to use them.
+ Llayout is user friendly: easy to read and use.
    – Layout is a little dull and ascetic :p
    – I miss a possibility to subscribe to comments. That is what makes shared social media services like My Opera so great. There you have several options to subscribe on almost anything.

  2. One more thing:
    – no option to edit comments 🙁

  3. Great to see the buzzard. Those martin chicks can have no idea of the journey that awaits them!

  4. Sami, thanks for the feedback. I know it’s a fairly minimalist layout, but I prefer to keep it clean and simple. At least it works!

I haven’t implemented editing yet (I need to explore that a bit more), but you can now subscribe to comments. I’ll play around with the settings to see if I can make that default on if you comment. 🙂

  5. Adele, the buzzard was nice to see, but htey just stroll around locally, unlike those house martins. They’re in for one heck of a shock. ‘How much further, Mum?’ I can hear them twittering!
