Just a quick post tonight, of some of the local birds making the best of a frozen landscape. The first shot is of a small group of common gulls, which are a rarity to see in these parts (despite their name). No doubt the cold weather has brought them inland in search of food.

Next up is a much more common sighting, black-headed gulls (with a smattering of mallard).

And one enjoying a stretch….

Of the smaller birds, the cutest were the long-tailed tits which were busy searching out food in the newly budded trees.

A mistle thrush was checking out one of the few uncovered patches of grass.

Finally, a blackbird (female, hence brown) sheltering by a wall.

  1. Love the second one!
And the blackbird is a nice shot, too.

  2. Nice photo of a thrush

  3. Great moment shots

  4. Darko, I was reading today that the mistle thrush is declining in numbers. We seem to have plenty round here, but nationally the numbers have fallen a lot. 🙁

  5. Erwin, thanks!

  6. dW, I liked the second shot as well. I took several of that general arrangement. I spotted the blackbird as I was going back to work at the side of one of our buildings. I liked the stone/pebble wall as a background.

  7. Long-tailed tits seem to be quite abundant (or at least, quite active) at the moment. Such cute little things.

  8. Adele, I've seen a healthy number this winter. Now if only we had some bright days to go with them… I fear more rain is on the horizon.
