Was playing around on the computer earlier today and unwrapped one of those free software packs you get on magazines. It included a version of a browser called 'Avant' (version 9.0) so in the interests of testing my site on most things, I thought I'd install it. It works off IE6 (which should have been a warning to me).
It installed fine, but grabbed about every setting it could. And it failed to render simple gifs that everything else copes with (including IE). Plus it meant that IE no longer rendered the page properly either (which it had coped with fine immediately before installation). Basically it stole IE and wouldn't give it back. :irked:
Well blow that! A quick uninstall and aaarghhh… all my lovely Opera icons for html pages were back showing the nasty Explorer icon. :furious: I had absolutely not asked Avant to be the default anything. A quick System Restore (yes I'd remembered to load a restore point before installation) put things right.
Just made me realize how lucky Opera users are to have great software, even in beta.
Opera 7.5 rocks!
