The fox watching has been more patchy this week, partly due to the weather (last night was dreadful), but also because the shorter days. The fox doesn't like to hang around as long when it's dark, and if I'm honest I'm less willing to sit out when it's cold. I still managed to get some photos and I particularly like this one from a few nights ago.

Other fox news is that the Belgian artist Francis Alys has filmed a fox loose in the National Portrait Gallery as part of his 'streets' project. Truly an urban (and presumably urbane) fox. This article in The Independent lacks images (the newspaper carried them), but explains more. Shame they didn't get the artist's name quite right. ;). More on Alys at the Artangel site. (They asked to use some of my photos for a catalogue – seriously – but a combination of events meant I missed my chance of fox fame.)

I've also just finished one of the strangest novels I've read in long time: The Hospital Ship by Martin Bax. My best shot at a description is that it's a cross between Ballard and Burroughs, deeply '60s influenced, and sharply iconoclastic. It's set on a ship that is the only sanctuary of healing in a world of pain and violence. Very strange, and not as dark as it sounds. I've posted a short review on my other site.

And while on a literary theme, Pete Townsend of The Who is publishing a novella by installments over on his blog. I've downloaded the first two chapters, but haven't started reading it yet. I plan to have a few chapters more stored on my Palm so I can get a decent run at it.

  1. HI Words,

Thanks for the link I downloaded the first 2 also, from what I read quickly it sounds very intersting.

Any good read is worth downloading, thanks for the tip.

How many foxes do you currently have on your property now??

Always a pleasure to read your journal ..

    Thank you ,

    Eve

  2. Eve,

We've two regular fox visitors at the moment. The dog fox who loves being photographed, and what we presume is the vixen who is as coy as they come. I'd really like to get a photo of her but she is just too canny for me.

We don't see the cub any more (off to pastures new I think).

  3. HI W,

I was thinking you had more but what you have is enough right? 🙂

Maybe with some coaching to ms coy one some foods she might enjoy will bring her closer to you 🙂

thanks for your birthday wishes I was happy to see a post from you.

    Eve

  4. Good picture (again), and an informative and interesting blog, as usual. Sorry I am presently unable to contribute anything to the Forum, but I have been very busy and will be flying out to join my wife in Madrid next Monday. I shall attempt to post the odd blog while there, but this will not be a priority. Nice reading your info. and news, dear friend.
