The weather is on the turn. Today was grey; and tonight, although not gale force the winds are blowing with some gusto. So nothing from tonight, but instead a few more photos of Bold from her visit at the weekend. I'm becoming rather more selective in the shots I take of the park creatures. Unlike my time in the fields, the park life is very consistent and presents a different type of photographic challenge. It's much less about getting a shot (any shot), and more about searching out something that distinguishes the moment. Yesterday it was the swans being photographed. Today my attention was caught by a squirrel perched on a low pillar on one of the small bridges…

And by a swan disappearing under the trees near the York gate entrance to the park.

I'm still sorting through Sunday's photos of Bold (I have to admit to being much less selective, though she's such a patient subject that I do have time to construct the shots). Here are a couple more to be going along with.

Camera note: the squirrel and swan were photographed with the EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM. The fox was photographed with the EF 100mm f/2.8L macro IS USM lens.

  5. Thanks Anon!

  6. Chris, thanks. I was pleased with that shot. It's even moderately level!

  7. Darko, tame? or confident? She's certainly relaxed.

  8. Robin, she's certainly looking good at the moment. Nice to have her back in the garden.

I wonder what that swan is up to! I suspect some shady business….. The humor in that picture makes me smile.
And the fox – that must be the most pristine, beautiful and photogenic fox!

  12. Another great series! I was actually getting a bit more fussy than usual in Yellowstone – I think I've photographed too many deer and pronghorn this year, and half a day in that park will cure even the most fanatical bison fan of trying to photograph every bison they see :right:

    Bold is lovely! 🙂

  13. TWellis, thanks! Such playful little things, and great posers.

  14. L'Accordeoniste, I'm pleased you like the swan photo. It looks lost in thought… a very serious swan 😉 The fox is a regular… she's been visiting since she was a few months old.

  15. Adele, it is always so tricky to keep the numbers down… somehow I ended up with over 200 shots at lunchtime today, though my excuse is that in-flight bursts are always a bit like that. More than half get thrown away. No bison though!

Bold was back again last night… bless her!
