A Cormorant Gets a Fish

Signs are posted all around the pond, and the message is clear. Fishing is not allowed.

Cormorant

But when did posting a sign stop a cormorant from going after a hearty meal. 🙂

The photos of the cormorant with its catch were taken directly into a mix of bright reflection from the surface of the water, and deep shade from the trees at the edge of the pond. Inevitably they lack a little quality. The cormorant seems happy though!

Silver, Black and White

As a sort of follow-on from yesterday’s post, I’ve added silver to the colour scheme. This time though the subject is a pretty pied wagtail (the black and white) caught paddling at the edge of Falmer Pond (the silver) early this morning.

Black and White

I was doing my best to photograph a cormorant in poor light this morning at Seven Sisters…

Cormorant at Seven Sisters

… when I was startled by another bird flying just overhead. It came in very quietly behind me, though given its size that may seem hard to believe. So, somewhat absurdly, these are grabbed shots of a swan. One day they’ll come towards me which will make life a lot easier.
