Daytime Video – Night time Photos (fox cubs)

Everything in today’s post was taken yesterday… I’ll start with the photos (technically taken in the early hours of this morning) and then move on to the video (daytime in full colour).

It never stays peaceful for too long though!

But the fighting is short-lived…

Now the video.. taken with my new trail camera. These clips are in daylight, but the night quality is also pretty good.

I’m sure there will be more soon!

Fox Cub Update

Things are still proving a bit hit and miss with the fox cubs. The erratic weather (windy) doesn’t help. Foxes hate the wind and get can become very skittish when it’s noisy. They rely on sound to a surprising extent. Pretty has been good though, and on Thursday night she brought four of the cubs into the garden.

One of the cubs took fright very quickly but two or three did stay around long enough for a few more photos. (Pretty sat down next to me while I took the photos!)

The numbers continued to dwindle, I suspect because there were more exciting adventures to be had the other side of the fence.

Those are with the camera, which is always something of an artificial situation (at least until they become sufficiently familiar with my presence to ignore it). The trail camera has a rather better time gathering images (but worse visual quality… something I hope to fix with an upgrade I’m picking up tomorrow). It did reveal on Friday night that rather than the five cubs I thought there were, there are in fact at least six.

Fox Cubs on a Misty Night

A typical spring night. In other words a grey mist shrouded the garden this evening, which even if it doesn’t put off the fox cubs does present some challenges in processing the images. Two of the cubs put in an appearance. They are still being cautious as a group so I’m not sure how many I will get to see. But I’m used to waiting. This is a regular pattern as the bolder cubs venture forth and their more reticent siblings hang back enjoying the security of the adults.
