I’ve been a fan of Patti Smith since 1975, and saw her a lot during those early punk years in the 70s when she was an absolutely transformative figure in music.
These photos are from 2005/2006, taking in a couple of Meltdown shows (Horses and the Hendrix nights), a performance at the Brighton Dome, and finally a more intimate acoustic performance at London’s South Bank. Tom Verlaine was part of the touring band during this period. They were taken with either an Olympus 3.2MP camera (tiny) or a Canon bridge 5MP bridge camera, so fairly basic equipment in comparison with what you can get these days. I’ve reprocessed the images in Lightroom and Photoshop to iron out some of the more obvious technical and creative glitches.
