Well I was wrong about the strange fox being one of the youngsters. I saw him at the edge of the pond just after midnight and after a couple of long shots with the zoom, decided to risk venturing into the garden proper. He hung around, walked in a stately manner, was unconcerned by my presence. He even waited while I put the final piece of the puzzle together by popping inside to get an egg. And then briefly popped up on to the garage roof! Yes, the strange fox is no stranger at all. It's the old dog fox, back on his old stomping ground. I'm delighted and somewhat staggered by this. And congrats to Mark (Flying Fox Blog) for beating me to the identification on the previous post about his reappearance.
Just a couple of photos for now (it's late)!
Camera note: both shots taken with the EF70-300mm 4.5-5.6 DO IS lens.

27 Nov 2007Wow you were posting at nearly 1am:lol: I recognised him because he looks more *bushier* than the others and looks more older and The Boss kind of Fox 😛

27 Nov 2007Now here's the question: is he coming home because he prefers this territory, or is he trying to avoid the youngster dispersers inevitably on the move at this time of year?
Vulpes vulpes
27 Nov 2007It's great that he is still around – all too often they don't even get past 18 months – if they are lucky! 🙁
And I'd say he's coming for the eggs!! 😀

28 Nov 2007Yes he seems to do quite well round here, and must have a number of friendly gardens to choose from! It's odd how he shows up periodically and can then vanish for weeks/months on end.
