Some minor progress to report. Last night (Wednesday) the fox entered the garden twice. The first time it kept well away from where the camera was set up. The second time he appeared after I'd packed up for the night. :insane: I got a decent look at him though, so certainly a minor success.
I tried again this evening. After an hour and a half I managed one shot and have since brought the gear in so that he can have the freedom of the garden. This fox is not keen on the camera. And he was semi-obscured by the pond wall; but a photo of fox is a photo of a fox and I'm going to keep posting bad pictures until I get a good one π A foot or so over to the right of the frame and this would have been great.
Fox by the pond, taken remotely
Camera note: taken with the EF 24-105 F4L IS USM lens, Canon 430EX flash unit, supported by a Manfrotto 458B Neotec tripod and 488RC2 ball head. Settings were 1/60s, f/13, manual focus, focal length 67mm. Triggered with the HΓ€hnel HW 433 C80 Pro Remote Control.

6 Mar 2009π He's certainly making you work hard :insane:
I'm also struggling to get pictures of garden foxes. However, I had a brief glimpse of the Chipped Vixen a couple of nights back and she's obviously lactating :hat:

7 Mar 2009Adele, it's a struggle I can cope with π We watched tonight and he emerged briefly from the shadows, looked at us across the garden and then retreated, and watched for a while longer. No photos (I didn't want to startle him). He'll eventually figure out that we're no threat. It reminds me of the early fox watching days.
Great news about CV! π
