We’ve known for several months that Lopa had given birth to some cubs, and we’d even caught glimpses of a cub at night. But we didn’t know how many cubs there were, or how they were faring. Finally – on the longest day of the year – they put in a daylight appearance. Two cubs, that is. They were very shy, but I managed to grab a couple of photos.
This first one was relatively bold and sat quietly at the rear of the garden. I was about 50 feet away, keeping very still so as not to startle it, but I’m fairly sure it knew I was there. It’s got a slight mark under it’s right eye (scratch?), but seemed in good shape and already quite grown up.
The second cub was extremely shy and only put its head out for a moment. It seems smaller than its sibling and as soon as it spotted (or heard) that we were in the garden it beat a retreat. It does have magnificent ears!
Hopefully we’ll see a little more of these two over the coming weeks and months,
