First an apology to everyone who suffered a wet bank holiday. Entirely my fault. I watered the garden yesterday, so rain was more or less guaranteed for today 🙁

Rain, and stifling humidity with dark skies and little or no breeze. Not a day for heading to the downs: in the ever constant search for workable light, the coast offers the better opportunities. Even there it was a struggle, especially as instead of looking to the reflective white of the cliffs for the fulmars (they were there, but quiet), I concentrated on an altogether less frequent visitor down among the dark of the rock pools. These shots were taken from the cliff-side path, which provided a good overhead view of the beach and a firm place to rest the camera. Even so, it was a struggle to get a workable shutter speed. I resorted to manual settings as the automatic exposure varied dramatically depending on whether I was 'on' the bird or not.

The rest of the ones processed so far (there were a lot) are over here.

As for the foxes, I missed the cub last night. But I did see the bold vixen.

Camera note: all shots taken with the EF 400mm f/5.6L USM lens, except the vixen which was with the EF 24-105 F4L IS USM lens.

  1. Bold vixen, beautiful as always 🙂

  2. I never get tired of seeing egrets. And, you obviously didn't water your garden enough because it was mostly dry up here yesterday

  3. great set of photos

  4. Adele, I'm glad to hear you missed the rain. The egret was about the only bird there (apart from the gulls). It was stalking along the pools, and put on a great display.

  5. Darko, thanks!

  6. Thanks Neil!

  7. The erget is so gracious, snowwhite beauty! And the fox is lovely, too 🙂

  8. Thanks Anna! Snow white is so true.
