It was sunny this morning… but that had turned to overcast skies and a light rain by the time we arrived at our destination, Wakehurst Place. Rain at Wakehurst
The conditions were far from ideal for photography, but they weren't too bad to dissuade this pheasant from his afternoon stroll. Coming over the hill
Pausing for a light snack
… and a brief look round
Then off home again
Camera note: The first shot was taken with the all shots taken with the Canon 40D and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens. All the other were with the EF 100mm f/2.8L macro IS USM.

12 Aug 2010He must have been walking there on a regular basis – he seems not to be disturbed by people at all. Everytime I saw them here they would fly away or disappear in wheat field the moment they saw me :left:
Nice photographs.

12 Aug 2010Oh wow, this highly prized game bird would never walk like that around my area.

13 Aug 2010He acts like he owns the place! Reminds me of the pelicans in St James' Park! :right:

14 Aug 2010Beware the pelican who sits on the bench by the path. It gathers tourists, one of whom I filmed on my phone camera because he was stroking its head! I didn't actually witness any violence but I wouldn't like to get in a fight with a pelican. Or have to rescue any tourists from a pelican either, for that matter :insane:

14 Aug 2010Adele, which reminds me I must go to St James' Park soon.

14 Aug 2010Andy, Wakehurst Place is part of Kew Gardens (national horticultural centre) so the pheasants are almost like show birds. In the real countryside they would be off like a shot.

14 Aug 2010Erwin, thanks. I don't mind a little rain, but I would like some sunshine as well. The summer has disappeared 🙁

14 Aug 2010Darko, I know what you mean about pheasants flying off. If I see them in the fields that's exactly what they do. These shots were taken at Wakehurst Place, which gets thousands of visitors each year so the wildlife is not very wild!
