I've been stuck at home all week with a bout of flu, and in between feeling plain awful, taking my temperature and generally feeling sorry for myself, I've also caught up with some movie watching. Nothing high-brow. When I'm ill, I like my entertainment numbingly simple. So the menu so far this week has been: I Robot; Spiderman II; Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone; and The Hulk.

Here's some quick reviews:

I Robot: enjoyable trash, if somewhat sentimental. Weak plot, and a bit of a missed opportunity to address the real issues of AI.

Spiderman II: Not as good as I'd hoped. I'd been looking forward to this. Solid, but I prefer the X-Men movies.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone: I fell asleep during this. Pretty dire.

The Hulk: my favourite of the the week. Much better than I'd expected despite the er… clumsy Hulk-effects. Liked the ridiculous leaps though, and the great use of in-set screens that recreated a genuine comic-book feel. Visually great, and suitably silly in the right places. Given that The Hulk was always on of my least liked Marvel characters, this worked well. My film of the week.
