I've taken to early starts and was treated to a lively Green Woodpecker this morning. It flitted between several trees, but I think this is my favourite.
A sharp shower caught me out at lunchtime. I'd wandered well away from shelter and got a soaking, but did see a jay so not all was lost. No usable photos though. The ducks were a different matter.
I'll close with a shot taken this evening in the garden.
Camera note: birds photographed with the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens. The vixen was snapped with the EF 24-105 F4L IS USM.

15 Apr 2008The woodpecker in the tree I like as well – a sense of vastness.

The duck looks like he's floating on glass!

15 Apr 2008I like the way the woodpecker seems to be analysing his coming climb upwards! 🙂

15 Apr 2008Thanks Lois. I seem to have found the woodpecker's morning haunt. It was there again today, but did a better job of evading me. The ducks only vist the pond occasionally in ones and twos. Nice to see them there though.

15 Apr 2008Adele, I was particularly impressed with the fact that it landed somewhere where there were no branches in the way 😆

How I wish you'd put more of your stunning shots on your flickr account Words!
Your woodpecker photograph here is YET AGAIN proof positive (if it was ever needed?) that composition is JUST as important as subject.
A really wonderful shot – my favourite of any you've taken so far this year…
A treat indeed.
Doug.

18 Apr 2008Doug, I know I should (I even pay for that space!). I slowed down when they upgraded the upload tool. I must find the previous version which I much preferred. It might encourage me to use it more. Glad you like that woodpecker pic. 😀
