We're now officially out of British Summer Time, and the air has a decided chill to it. Today proved to be one of those autumn days when the light was perfect, the skies blue and the colours vibrant. The birds were quiet, so I switched lenses and focused on the landscape.

Meanwhile, in the garden tonight nicked-ear was back, looking as graceful as ever. She tends to scour the borders, and this evening her attention was caught by something moving in the undergrowth. I was about 30 feet away so couldn't see what it was that had attracted her. Until later, that is. If you look closely in this first shot you can see a hedgehog moving away from her. Apologies for the bad case of eye-shine, but that comes from using flash at a distance.

Fox and hedgehog

She sniffed around that spot for a few moments but then moved away, leaving Mrs Tiggywinkle to go about her nightly foraging.

Camera note: the landscapes were both taken with the EF17-40mm f/4L USM lens. The photos of the fox were taken using the EF70-300mm 4.5-5.6 DO IS lens.

  5. Thanks Vulpes

  6. Darko, yes it was lovely!

  7. Thanks San!

  8. Lois, this time of year can be great. 🙂

  9. Its been beautiful, i went to the park yesterday and caught some nice autumn photos 😀 It has got rather cold now, iam missing the nice hot Thai weather lol 😛

I can get going on my photos again, been busy last week working 12 hour shifts!:faint: I will do my first post on it soon.

  10. Nice shot of the vixen and the hedgehog together! I imagine that the hedgehog will be going to sleep fairly soon

  11. Mark, ouch to the 12 hour shifts. Hope they're paying a good rate for the extra time. Looks like we're in for a cold snap. I missed all the good weather today and ended up getting soaked on the way home.

  12. Adele, yes I imagine the hedgehogs be bunkering down shortly now the weather's turned. They've been very active lately, feeding up for the winter.

  13. Such nice photos! Thanks

  14. Karen, thanks for popping by!

  15. Good to see her again, I’ve been feeling an absence of foxes on my opera lately.

  16. Eric, it's a quiet time of year for them, plus if it's wet I don't spend as much time outside. 😉

  17. Yeah, i think working 12 hour shift when i was still affected by 6 hour jetlag wasnt that clever, i nearly collapsed on the way home, lucky my friend helped me home!

Think i might need a new computer soon as this one has the screen jerking all over the place! :yikes:

Did you get some snow? i didnt but London did. 🙂

  18. Mark, take it easy! No snow here that I've seen so it can't have come this far south (we get any snow that's in the area). The flickering on your computer could be a corrupted video driver. It might be worth checking which video card you have and downloading the latest driver from the manufacturer's website. It might just fix it.

  19. What a gorgeous day in your awesome photos!

  20. Cynthia, the light was wonderful earlier in the week. It's trailed off a bit since then 🙁

  21. I like #1 – the posts leads your eye towards the trees/building on the far right. Have you tried using a polariser for these sorts of shots?

Nice of the fox to cooperate with you also 🙂

  22. Brendan, I've played around a little bit with a polarizer but haven't really figured out how to get the best out of it. If we had more sunny days I might persist with it a bit more.
