The August Birds album is filling up fast. Reason? Some decent weather at last, and I've been giving a new lens a good work out. It's the Canon EF 100-400mm L, which weighs a ton, but with image stabilisation allows long range hand-held shots. I've been having some fun with it, as you'll see (and spotting plenty of new bird species… well new to me).
All the shots were taken over the past two or three days at various locations on the South Downs. The goldfinches were particularly cooperative and there are several more shots in the album. I think I've got the identifications right, but please say if I haven't!

3 Sep 2007Thanks all. I was really happy with all these shots, but the kestrel is special. I have a soft spot though for the goldfinches. They put on a great display for me.
